Board Approves Project Funding
Project funding for workforce development in Wise County; a mine-pool geothermal feasibility study in Buchanan County; and HVAC improvements at the Jettie Baker Center in Dickenson County were among the items approved March 19 during a meeting of the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA).
Loan Closed to Wise County IDA for New Blackwood Industrial Park Acreage
A $230,000 loan to the Wise County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) was closed recently between the IDA and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA). The funds were used to purchase approximately 23.714 acres of real estate in the Blackwood Industrial Park in Wise County for economic development purposes.
DCD>Connect Held in New York
VCEDA Business Development Specialists Diane Thomas and Charlotte Mullins, are representing VCEDA at the Data Center Dynamics — DCD>Connect — conference in New York City, NY this week. They are pictured here with John Kilgore, executive director of the Scott County Economic Development Authority, who is also in attendance at the event. The conference brings together more than 4,500 senior leaders working on North American data center projects. The conference examines software and hardware needs as well as power and communications for data centers. This year’s conference explores how operators are securing and scaling power for the AI era, bringing together utilities, developers, investors and infrastructure leaders tackling grid challenges.

Grant Closed with Tazewell County IDA on Housing Development Study
An up to $40,000 grant to be used to finance a preliminary engineering report and environmental impact review study for a possible housing development in Tazewell County was closed recently between the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) and the Tazewell County Industrial Development Authority (IDA).
The property being considered is located near the Tazewell County Career & Technical Center in Tazewell, VA.

VCEDA was pleased to be in attendance at ConExpo in Las Vegas, Nevada at a trade show focused on the companies and innovations redefining what’s next in construction. The show featured 2,000 exhibitors and 150 educational sessions. Recognized manufacturers like Komatsu and Volvo to John Deere, Caterpiller and more attended the event. Earthmoving and materials handling to engines and engine components were showcased along with the latest equipment and technologies. VEDA Spring Conference Held in Williamsburg, VA
Stronger connections. Stronger communities. Stronger Virginia. That was the theme of this year’s Virginia Economic Developers Association spring conference held in Williamsburg, March 25-27. VCEDA Communications Coordinator Cathy St. Clair represented VCEDA at the event which featured presentations from Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery; and Virginia Economic Development Partnership CEO Jason El Koubi. VCEDA was also a sponsor of the event and exhibited at it.
VCEDA Sponsors SVAM Women in Manufacturing Event
VCEDA was a bronze sponsor and joined a sold-out event audience of 300 for the Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing (SVAM) seventh annual Women of Manufacturing Symposium held March 6 at the SWVA Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA. Several women employed by manufacturing companies in the VCEDA region were among the honorees for the Outstanding Women of Manufacturing Awards. Letha Doss of AMR Pemco received the award in the administrative support category. Other honorees included Crystal Zombek of Tate, Inc., in the hourly/production category; and Debbie Boyles of Tadano Mantis Corporation, in the administrative support category. Susan Copeland, VCEDA marketing coordinator, represented VCEDA at the event.
