$500,000 VCEDA Loan to Russell County IDA Will Assist with Property Upfits to Benefit Simmons Equipment Expansion
An up to $500,000 loan approved by the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) to be used to finance building upfits and improvements for the Russell County Industrial Development Authority’s Russell Place property in Lebanon, VA, will support the continued expansion of Simmons Equipment Company. VCEDA Promotions, Hiring Announced
VCEDA team promotions and the hiring of Angie Farmer as a new economic development specialist were announced in mid-July. Promotions announced were as follows: Marketta Horton, left, has been promoted from economic development specialist to funds administrator; Mitzi White, second from right, VCEDA’s long-time office manager, has been promoted to economic development specialist; Charlotte Mullins, right, has been promoted from VCEDA marketing ambassador to VCEDA business development specialist; and Cathy St. Clair, not pictured, has been promoted from marketing ambassador to the role of VCEDA’s communications coordinator. Additional VCEDA staff who remain unchanged are Susan Copeland, marketing coordinator; Diane Thomas, business development specialist; Mary Hickman (Hickman Accounting), accountant; and Jonathan Belcher, executive director/general counsel.
Governor Glenn Youngkin Announces White Rock Truss & Components, LLC Expanding in Lee County
Governor Glenn Youngkin announced June 30 that White Rock Truss & Components, LLC, a company that manufactures yellow pine trusses for residential and commercial use, will invest $1.5 million to expand their operations by building a new lumber shed and upgrading equipment in Lee County. $50,000 VCEDA Grant to Be Used to Help Develop Hillside Trail Park in Lebanon
A new 11-acre site described by the Russell County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) as the gateway for broader tourism efforts tied to the Clinch River will be developed due in part to an up to $50,000 grant from the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) Tourism Capital Improvement Matching Fund The grant will be used to help finance the construction of the Hillside Trail Park in downtown finance the construction of the Hillside Trail Park in downtown Lebanon. Virginia Business Ad Highlights Seed Capital Program
VCEDA’s seed capital matching grant program through 2024 had assisted 204 start-up businesses and last month, added 10 more to that total, helping entrepreneurs in our region turn their dreams into reality and creating jobs throughout the seven-county one-city area which makes up Southwest Virginia’s economic region (e-Region). Take a look at our June Virginia Business ad — if you haven’t already — and read a little about one of our earliest seed capital grant businesses and how Brad Deel, of Clintwood, VA, started out in Dickenson County and has now become a sought after photographer, especially in the sports field. From Netflix to ESPN, to testing out a new high-powered lens for Sony at an NFL game, Deel has made a name for himself and the e-Region.
VCEDA Meets with New SWCC President
VCEDA staff members had the opportunity to meet with new Southwest Virginia Community College President, Dr. Clinton Hayes July 21. Hayes, who was named president of SWCC effective July 1, stopped by the VCEDA office to learn a little more about VCEDA and what it does. Hayes is pictured with VCEDA Executive Director/General Counsel Jonathan Belcher and from left, with VCEDA staffers Angie Farmer, Diane Thomas, Susan Copeland, Mitzi White, Hayes, Charlotte Mullins, Belcher and Marketta Horton. VCEDA and SWCC have a long history of working together on projects, especially those in the workforce development space.
